Family Home, Dubai
This project was designed for Dubai for a couple with two adult children. The approach was to design a contemporary home in the genre of an international style but with features to give a hint of its location in that part of the world.
The aspect of tall trees and green plants being both inside the house as well as externally was important as was the features of both light and shade affecting the spatial geometry of the interior.
A common feature of hot countries is large overhanging roofs which are prominent here and together with brille soleil and sail covers mounted on the roof, the reliance on natural ventilation rather than whole house air-conditioning is important. Bridges and double-height spaces add interest.
